The Safe Step Act has been introduced in both the House and Senate and would reform step therapy protocols used by insurers in employer-sponsored coverage by creating protections for patients.
This bill would help ensure patients get the right medicine at the right time by codifying five commonsense scenarios in which an insurer must grant an exception to step therapy requirements, including, for example, when a patient is stable on an already selected and approved medication.
